I am a physician-psychiatrist and a follower of Christ. I practiced Christian psychiatry for 42 years in West Michigan and Fort Wayne, Indiana. I was privileged to successfully treat many young people, elderly, and every age in between, including pre-teens, developmentally disabled folks, the elderly, military veterans with PTSD, and patients with severe dissociative disorders.
I used a comprehensive Integrative Medicine approach, using God’s natural resources,
essential oils and supplements, and compassionate Scriptural counseling.
I received my medical training at the University of Michigan Medical School, psychiatry
education at the Lafayette Clinic/Wayne State University. Board Certified in 1979.
I studied conservative Christian theology at the Grand Rapids Baptist College/Seminary (now
Cornerstone University). I have learned from the works of Dr. Larry Crabb, Frank Minirth, MD,
Henry Cloud and John Townsend, among others.
I have a wonderful wife Betty Lou for 52 years as of 2022, and 2 adopted children. We are active members of Chapel Pointe Church in Hudsonville, Michigan. I am also a survivor of some severe childhood PTSD abuses and traumas. God has raised me up in healing through Christian counseling, prayers, journaling and Scripture, so I became a “healing wounded healer” to many. Now retired from clinical psychiatry, I feel called to write, to foster growth, protection and blessings to a larger audience.
Sex, Like Fire is a book and program primarily for youth in our homes and churches. Ouryoung especially are bombarded and confused with secular beliefs and practices in our increasingly immoral culture. It is written in an interactive youth-friendly dialog format. It is an excellent tool for parent-teen talks, and teen small group education.
